What soldiers ate in the trenches

In WW1 many soldiers were very limited on food. The soldiers would eat things such as hardtack, local vegetables, soups, and stews. A soldier consumed about 4,600 calories daily. The soldiers will take turns baking food with their mate. Their mate is a person they share their sleeping area with and the person on the line with you. In WW1 there was a total of 3,240,948 tons of food sent to the British.
